Game Goals

"100 people surveyed, the top four answers are on the board... Survey SAYS...!"

Family Feud is easy to play! Simply beat the clock to figure out the four most popular answers with the fewest 'hint' letters revealed. Guess all four correctly to play the Bonus Round and increase your score by correctly choosing the most popular answer.

Game Rules

Main Round

The main round consists of a single survey question followed by the four most popular answers in a hangman-style set of blank letter boxes. One random letter is revealed in each answer. For example, if the question is "Name a place a tourist visits in New York City," and the answer is "STATUE OF LIBERTY", the answer might look like this:

You can request an additional letter by clicking on the "Reveal Letter" button. So, after 6 requests to reveal a letter, the phrase might look like this:

When you think you know the answer, click the "Solve" button and complete the word or phrase, pressing [Enter] to submit. If your answer is correct, you will move on to the next answer. You cannot reveal the final letter in any answer, but you may "Pass" to the next available answer at any time, provided you have not already completed three of them.

You'll have two minutes to complete the "Main" round. If you do not complete all four answers before time runs out you will not receive a Time Bonus and will not be eligible for the Bonus Round. If you receive three (3) 'Xs' for incorrect answers, you will still receive a "Time" bonus, but you will not be eligible for the Bonus Round.

The Bonus Round requires you to select the answer you think was the most popular with the survey respondents.

Game Controls

To solve the answer immediately:

Left-click on the "Solve" button, or...
Press the [Enter] key on the keyboard, or...
Press the [S] key on the keyboard

To determine the answer letter-by-letter:

Type the word in using all of the letters that are in the word. (The game will overwrite letters that were previously revealed.)
Use the [Tab] or the right-arrow key on the keyboard to jump to the next available blank letter in the answer, and then use the letter keys to fill out a missing letter or overwrite an existing one.
Use the [Backspace] or the left-arrow key on the keyboard to jump to the previous blank letter in the answer. Use the letter keys to fill out a missing letter or overwrite an existing one.
Left-click to select a letter in the answer. Use the letter keys to fill out a missing letter or overwrite an existing one.

To submit your answer:

Left-click on the "Submit" button, or...
Press the [Enter] key

To reveal a single additional letter:

Left-click on the "Reveal Letter" button, or...
Press the [R] key on the keyboard

To Pass to the next available answer:

Left-click on the "Pass" button, or...
Press the [P] key

To complete the Bonus Round, left-click on one of the four (4) answers.

Game Scoring

The scoring protocol has three components: (a) Main Round score; (b) Time Bonus; and (c) Bonus Round score.

Main Round

Scores in the main round can range from 0 to 2,400 points, depending on how many answers you correctly complete. Each correct answer is worth a maximum of 600 points. This is calculated by dividing 600 points by N-1, where N is the number of letters in the answer. Thus, if an answer has 11 letters, each letter in the answer is worth 60 points. (600 / (N-1)) Letter scores vary, depending on the number of letters in an answer.

A successful answer generates a score equal to the letter value, times the number of unrevealed letters. For example, if the answer is BAR OF SOAP, and each letter is worth 75 points, and the player correctly guessed it while the letter set displayed the following...

...then the player would receive 300 points for that answer (i.e., 4 unrevealed letters at 75 points per letter).

Your score accumulates during this round, with the final Main Round score equal to the sum of the scores for each of the correctly completed answers. The maximum score before the Time Bonus is 2,400.

Time Bonus

Time Bonus = 500 * (Time Remaining)/(Starting Time)

For example, if the game has 42 seconds left on the clock (out of the 120 second time limit) when you complete your final answer, the time bonus will be 500 * 42/120, or 175 points.

Bonus Round

The score during the bonus round is equal to the popularity of the answer that you selected. For instance, if you were to select BAR OF SOAP, and that answer was the third (3rd) most popular response based on the survey results, you would receive a Bonus Round score of 25.
